About Wagyu Kanata

Let me introduce you to Wagyu Kanata, a restaurant in Amsterdam that quietly turns a meal into a memorable experience. Located at Buitenveldertselaan 158A, 1081 AB Amsterdam, Netherlands, it feels approachable yet refined from the moment you walk in. The vibe is relaxed and modern, making it just as suitable for a casual dinner as it is for a special night out. When I talk about Wagyu Kanata, I usually start with how easy it is to enjoy the place without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The menu focuses on quality and balance, leaning into small plates that encourage sharing, conversation, and curiosity. It is the kind of spot where you can order a few dishes, pair them with wine or cocktails, and let the evening unfold naturally. There is a well-chosen selection of alcohol, including beer and spirits, alongside coffee for those who prefer to keep things light. Service options are flexible too, so whether you feel like dining in, grabbing takeaway, or ordering delivery, it fits your plan. I also like mentioning the private dining room, which adds a more intimate layer for group dinners or quiet celebrations. What stands out is how the restaurant manages to feel polished while staying friendly and down to earth. You can sense care in the pacing, the presentation, and the way the space invites you to settle in. Wagyu Kanata works well for locals looking for a reliable favorite and for visitors who want something authentic without being intimidating. Because it sits comfortably between casual and refined, it adapts to different moods, times, and reasons for going out. I often describe it as a place where good food, thoughtful drinks, and an easygoing atmosphere come together naturally. From the first step inside to the last sip in your glass, the experience feels smooth, intentional, and welcoming.

I came here for lunch and really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere at Wagyu Kanata on Buitenveldertselaan is calm, clean, and understated — perfect for a quiet midday meal. I had the Premium Wagyu, and the quality of the meat was exceptional. Every cut was beautifully marbled and melted in the mouth. The staff was friendly and took the time to explain each cut and how to grill it properly, which made the experience feel personal and relaxed. That said, the portions were quite modest. It’s definitely more about appreciating the quality and craft than leaving extra full. Also, the tabletop grill leaves a bit of smoke on your clothes, which might not be ideal if you’re heading somewhere after. I am really glad I tried it. If you’re a fan of Wagyu and want a slower, more curated dining experience — even at lunchtime — it’s worth a visit. I will definitely come back!

We went here in the lunch time, decided to get Wagyu set and Premium set (with beef tongue). It was super nice, really juicy and delicious! Really reminded me of actual J-BBQ i had years back in Japan. The waiter was nice and patient in explaining the menu. They also offered dessert that normally gets shown in the dinner time so we decided to enjoy Matcha Affogato which was superb. Recommended!!

We got referred by a friend, so glad we tried it. The meat was incredible so tender and juicy! The service was really nice and the staff were incredibly welcoming. The ginger highball was also perfectly refreshing. A phenomenal dining experience!

It's hard to find anything in NL that comes close to the true Japanese experience, but this restaurant really does. Being welcomed with an "irashaimase!" and Japanese staff was a good start. 2 Different Japanese draft beers (Sapporo & Asahi) and lots of Japanese drinks like Sake and Umeshu / ume wine. The meat was absolutely up to Japanese standards as well. Ofcourse you pay for it. But some other places you pay for it and get nothing near Japanese standards. We had the Wagyu platter for 135€. Enough for 4 people to eat from if you combine it with some other small dishes. Delicious! (Oishii!) All in all, not cheap, but truly felt like dining in Japan. We will come back here for special occasions regularly! ごちそうさまでした ! ありがとうございます!

The staff (especially the waitress which served us) is extremely polite and super helpful. The food is of the highest quality and prepared with japanese precision. For me there was no difference in eating this in the Netherlands or Japan. 10/10 would go again when i crave for wagyu.

My fiancé took me here for my birthday, and it was hands down the best dinner I've ever had. We ordered à la carte and started with the wagyu gyoza and deep-fried tofu, they were decent but we probably should have gone straight for the yakiniku because we ended up struggling to finish everything We ordered the Beef Tongue Combo, the Marinated Iberico Pork, and the A5 Wagyu Platter (Kanata’s Omakase). Everything was incredible, one of my favorite parts was that we got to grill the meat ourselves so we could cook it exactly the way we liked. We had wagyu to our heart’s content but it didn’t take long before we hit our limit and started to feel a bit of a wagyu overload. Thankfully, we also ordered the wagyu tonkatsu ramen, which helped cut through the lingering fattiness and balanced the meal. The atmosphere was great, the staff were friendly, and overall it was an amazing experience. I’d definitely love to come back again

Had dinner here with my parents for my bday and we loved it! The meat is so good, full of flavor and melts in the mouth. The side dishes were so yummy and the atmosphere fits the place so well. The staff is helpful and kind, and we had a lovely time. Definitely recommend for a great dining out experience!
